Standing Strong: FCCC-GV Responds to U.S. Tariffs on Canadian Steel and Aluminum

The Filipino-Canadian Chamber of Commerce – Greater Vancouver (FCCC-GV) expresses deep concern over the United States’ decision to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum, in addition to broader tariffs on Canadian goods (on pause). This move will have significant economic consequences, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), workers, and industries reliant on cross-border trade.

As an organization representing Filipino-Canadian entrepreneurs, professionals, and business owners, we recognize that many of our members are directly or indirectly affected by these tariffs. Increased costs in manufacturing, construction, and other industries will lead to supply chain disruptions, reduced competitiveness, and financial strain on local businesses.

FCCC-GV stands in solidarity with the broader business community in urging the federal and provincial governments to respond decisively to protect Canada’s economic interests. We call for urgent diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation and to advocate for fair and open trade.

At the same time, we encourage businesses to explore alternative markets, strengthen domestic supply chains, and invest in innovation to remain resilient in this evolving trade landscape. FCCC-GV remains committed to supporting our members through advocacy, resource-sharing, and collaboration with other chambers and industry partners to navigate these challenges.

Now more than ever, we must stand united as a province and as a nation to protect the interests of Canadian businesses, workers, and communities, ensuring long-term economic stability and growth.
